The long awaited collaboration between Karl Lagerfeld and Kaia Gerber has been released. The news about the famous designer asking Cindy Crawford’s daughter to create a capsule collection of ready-to-wear and accessories first emerged in January this year, leaving everybody curious to know more. This is the company’s largest collaborative project to date.
Called simply, Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia, the day-to-night line is reminiscent of a Paris-to-LA feeling, with Gerber responsible for incorporating her West Coast style into Lagerfeld’s Parisian aesthetic.
The collection features wetsuit-inspired bodysuits, hoodies, biker jackets, tuxedos, most of them following a monochromatic line. As far as accessories go, the collection consists of monogram chokers, over-the-knee socks, rucksacks and velvet backs and hats with chain-embellishments.
Lagerfeld, who is known for his interest in photography, shot the campaign himself in his 7L studio in Paris’s Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. The lookbook, however, was shot in LA, immersed in Gerber’s natural habitat of palm trees, skate parks and beach fronts.
Recently we have seen many brands trying to create hype by partnering with influencers and popular celebrities. Tommy Hilfiger is such an example – the collaboration with Gigi Hadid generated 900 per cent increased traffic to the online magazine in the first 48 hours following the launch.
