The last test drive for 2021, was with the fastest and the only one four-wheel drive option (for now) on offer: the Q4 Sportback 50 e-tron Quattro. The Q4 E-tron is a compact crossover-style SUV  based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB (Modularen Elektrik Baukasten, or Modular Electric Toolkit) platform, created especially for EVs.

The Q4 e-tron 50 claims 475 km of range on a full charge – down on the middle-of-the-range e-tron 40, which boasts 510 km, but produces almost 100bhp less, an impressive balance.
With an outstanding refinement , it drives neatly given its weight (more than 2 t), giving you great satisfaction to drive it day-to-day.

Q4 E-Tron Gets A Next Level Interior, and impresses both in look and feel with its contemporary cabin. The roomy interior feels like it’s prioritised practical and eco-friendly touches. There is a large expanse of dashboard, but its materials are all very agreeable.

As is the clarity of the two digital displays, one for the instruments and a centrally mounted unit for the MMI infotainment system, which features Hey Audi conversational voice recognition. It features an augmented reality head-up display, that offers a versatile driving environment. There are many cubbyholes, including large bottle holders in each of the doors.

The rear seats are positioned 70mm higher than those in the front, because of the  battery, giving rear occupants an excellent view forward, however at the expense of head room. The lack of a centre tunnel provides the middle rear seat with uninterrupted foot space, too.
The Q4 has a front radar, a front camera, four surround-view cameras, two rear radars, and eight ultrasonic sensors for handling various driver assists. The result is a car that has an extremely well defined view of its surroundings. Standard safety features include lane departure warning and collision assist, but also others such as adaptive cruise control with lane centering, a driver monitoring system to anticipate driver fatigue, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring.

The Q4 Sportback is well thought out and executed. It is not tremendously engaging to drive, but it delivers strong performance, responsive handling and a nicely refined ride around town, and on the open road.
